Business Intelligence Reporting

Business Intelligence Reporting Overview

Business Intelligence (BI reports) reporting is a group of software applications and methodologies that generates insights and knowledge from different types of data sources. Business intelligence improves the decision-making process by using different reporting and data modelling strategies that have been designed by a Business Intelligence Analyst to achieve a better understanding from historical data, live data and from predictive AI data sources.

Purpose of Business Intelligence Reporting

Reporting is crucial and the backbone of Business Intelligence reporting as Business intelligence allows you to visualise different data on different interactive dashboards that include charts, tables, maps and graphs. In summary they represent your data as a graphical interface or report. A key objective of Business Intelligence is to report accurate and timely data in a format that is understood by the end user known as the report consumer.

When Business Intelligence first developed the reports and visualisation were static in nature and were not interactive with the end user. Over time Business Intelligence has evolved to now include functionality that allows the report consumer to be able to manipulate and interact with the reporting dashboard to be able to drill into it as well as slice and dicing, sorting, filtering the data allowing for decisions to be made by employees and management in shorter time frames. This additional functionality in Business Intelligence has further evolved to now allowing end users to be able to create, save and share their own reports with no technical Business Intelligence data modelling or programming skills.

Web based on-premise and cloud Business Intelligence solutions now allow for the report user to be able to deliver and share their Business Intelligence reports with other in various formats that include pdf, Excel, csv or word either through email, portals, uploading to ftp sites, OneDrive to mention a few.

In addition, Business Intelligence reports can be scheduled to run by the end user at a given date and time for specific time period horizons as filters on their reports. These reports can then be automatically emailed, uploaded to a portal or saved in another specific location in different formats. All this functionality is setup to run automatically to employees do not need to run them manually saving valuable time and effort that can be used on other more productive activities in the workplace.
